Re: FF23 film reviews
This was the same director of the Blood Feast remake right? I remember that getting plenty of (unintentional) laughs at Frightfest.

Re: 2021 films
Thanks for posting these reviews! I much prefer to read a quick paragraph and a mark out of ten then have to click a link to some over-long spoiler laden blog post!!

Re: Why Won't You Just Die?
Very lively though sadly not lively enough to stop me nodding off a little bit as we reached the end of day 3! Enjoyed the cartoon violence and the black humour so I can see why it has hit many people's top 5. I'll have to watch it again when I'm a bit more conscious!

Happy Face
Touching tale of a group of people exiled to the fringe of society who help each other to realise that it's not them who have the problem. It's a film that has you asking yourself a few questions and has some scenes of real emotional impact. A worthy and thought out inclusion in the festival though ...
Re: The Drone
A Child's Play knock off that got wonderfully ever dafter as it went along. The husbands penchant for scarves, the drone on the rocking chair.... lots to like.
Re: Feedback
Marsan was great of course and got to sound off on Brexit and the like. Good setting and atmosphere although I don't think the film achieved the change in audience sympathy along the way that it wanted to. They should have made more use of that "silent" room which had great horror potentia...

A Serial Killer's Guide to Life
Really enjoyed this story of two women who find happiness by bumping off self help gurus. Very funny in places, particularly in exploiting the pomposity and self serving motivations of the gurus themselves. The highlight of Saturday for me.
Re: Mary
A waste of some great talent in this extremely generic ghost movie. Guess what? The young daughter who loves to draw starts including a sinister dark figure in her pictures! Who'd have thunk it? In the q+a the director seemed to be choosing his words carefully in response to some questions. Suggeste...

Mutant Blast
I was hoping and expecting for something pretty bonkers to keep away that last movie of the day fatigue and this more than delivered. Lots of head stomping, a giant lobster fighting a ninja dolphin and a man with a comedy rat instead of a hand. Loved it.
Harpoon
Funny, smart and slightly twisted. The story of three 'friends' stuck on a yacht was a big hit with the audience. Probably not one that'll stick long in the memory for me, but it provided a decent dollop of entertainment.

This was the first dud of the festival for me. It just felt so TV movie.

Blood and Flesh: The Al Adamson Story
For the most part, a fun affectionate documentary about a neglected B movie giant from the 60s and 70s. Morphs into a true crime final third when dealing with his untimely demise. If like me you're a fan of the likes of Russ Meyer and Roger Corman, you'll lap this up.
Re: Cut Off
Really enjoyed this one. Good tension, likeable protagonists and a particularly grisly autopsy by proxy. What's not to like!
The Wind
Beautifully made horror Western playing with ideas of isolation, madness and folklore. One of the best of the day. Even the goat could act!

Re: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
Enjoyable in places although some of the stories were paper thin and didn't have much relevance to the victims as far as I could tell. Decent jump scares and good delivery of the "hiding under the bed" horror standby.
