Re: what are you reading?

Found an old copy of Clive Barker's Weaveworld in a charity shop. I read this book back in the mid-nineties and had forgotten what a real masterpiece it is.

Re: TONY - Speical Preview Screening - Friday 29th Jan

I managed to catch this last week on pay per view. Must say I was pleasantly surprised by the film. True it is low budget but I think that this adds to the general creepiness of the film. Some trily shocking moments and the central performance was excellent.

Just finished Pontypool. Have to say I was a little disappointed by it and found it hard to really get into. Not as good as the film. I wonder if anyone else found the same as the book is so hard to come by in the UK I don't know anyone else who has read it.

Just watched Parasomnia. Interesting little film with an unusual concept about a serial killer influencing the behaviour of a young woman with an unusual sleeping sickness. Well acted with a fantastic cameo from John Landis.Definately worth a watch. Was going to see Pandorum today but the exhaust fe...

The original Norwegian version of NightWatch is pretty scary. There is also a great little Swedish slasher film called The Premonition, but you might have to hunt for a copy of that on ebay as I think it has been deleted in the UK.

Over the last two weeks I have been gorging on all the films I have missed recently at the cinema. The Hurt Locker- stunning, absolutely wonderful war film and probably my favourite of the year so far. Mesrine Part two: not as good as the first half of the Mesrine double bill, but definately worth a...

I agree with Lupogirl- Mesrine was a stunning piece of cinema with an outstanding lead turn from Cassel. The main fault I have with film is having to wait until September for the second part (it opens on the Fri of Frightfest). I also saw Orphan on the same day and likewise I expected the same clich...

Tobe Hooper's sadly neglected and underrated ' Funhouse' dropped through my letter box care of LoveFilm. Not a bad little film and certainly worthy of more attention than it seems to have garnered over the last few years. Moon -if you haven't yet seen this (you are probably sick and tired of people ...

The remake of Day of the Dead is truly appalling- I struggled to watch it all the way through. And speaking of watching films all the way through, that is pretty much how I take Zone Horror. True many of the films are not good but occasionally a little gem will appear like Hardware and Dust Devil th...

I absolutely adore Hardware to the point that I snapped my VHS copy of it several years ago. When it came out in the cinema I went every night for a week. I still blame my A level results on that film. If you haven't yet seen it- try Dust Devil which is even cooler.

The Ruins : rather enjoyable yarn about killer plants (vines) that was a million times better than The Crappening. Rogue : excellent creature feature about a gigantic killer croc in an Australian back water. Any film about a killer croc has to be worth a view (even Lake Placid 2) but this was espec...

Not read any Poppy Brite before but will definately check out other books by her ove the next few months as I rather liked Exquisite Corpses. But now my copy of Pontypool has arrived from US-all else is on hold for a while.

Twilight Zone-the movie R1 and Rogue R1. The Good, the Bad and the Weird for £11 in Asda. Asda is fast becoming the place to buy foreign films. My local had Martyrs and Manhunt on sale really cheap

Managed to see Doghouse yesterday. Pretty much agree with Notts Pete's review- very funny, well acted and scripted. Shameful the amount of screens that it is showing on. I know I live in the wilderness (rural Essex)but without wishing to go to London to see the film, I had to travel 15 miles for my ...
