Re: Accommodation
I've booked the Shepherd's Bush Hilton, not far to walk to the cinema and it's a decent hotel. Plus, you book now and pay when you check in so big bonus there. I was checking out the other hotels and any that are sort of OK weren't much cheaper than the Hilton. Yes I've booked in here as well. Not ...

Re: Films for FrightFest 2016
Don't Breathe New Fede Alvarez (director of evil dead remake) got great reviews from SXSW and is out August 26th weekend so maybe it'll be shown on the 25th as an opener? She who must burn -uncomfortable movie from what I gather regarding religion and a nurse working at an abortion clinic. What cou...

Re: We Are Still Here
This really worked for me. One of the few films this year that was actually SCARY. Successfully riffing on the style of Mr. Fulci. 8 / 10

Re: Cherry Tree
A very, very bad choice for the opening movie. The first scenes made it look quite promising but it quickly descended into an incoherent mess.
Should have been buried in one of the Discovery screens late at night. 4 / 10

Re: Landmine Goes Click
Nasty but extremely compelling. Couldn't see where it was going and it held my attention for it's entire running time which is more than some of the films did this year. 8 / 10

Re: Tales Of Halloween
Christmas Horror Story worked far better as a portmanteau horror film. Better script, sharper, funnier and fewer stories made it feel more coherent.
I liked a couple of the stories in TOH but it just felt like one huge, messy, overblown vanity project. 4 / 10

Re: Slumlord
6 / 10 from me. Would have been more but was let down by the ludicrous ending.
Re: Bait
A very solid 8 / 10 from me. Loved how the relatively light hearted scenes in the market quickly developed into the nastiness of the final act. Very well acted and horrifyingly believable.

Bad Biology is essential. Vinyan is terrible.

Re: The Shining
One of the very few examples of where I prefer the shorter cut of a film. The longer cut gives too much away in advance. e.g. the first sight of the girls in the corridor has less impact in the longer cut. The pacing is not nearly as good in the longer cut.
Re: Alleluia
It was blown up from 16 mm which is why it looked so rough. This combined with the director 's style of zooming in really close when there was any action / fights happening made it a bit of a chore to watch. Having said that I enjoyed the Honeymoon Killers style plot and the crazy violence. Not as g...

Why wasn't this on the main screen? Loved the story the emotional depth and everything else about it. Easily in my top 5 of the festival. 9 /10

Re: I survived a zombie hollocaust
Well it was certainly screened at the right time. As an undemanding late night last film it was okay. Very silly broad humour and some decent gore with a "nerd triumphs against the odds" storyline. Pretty much what you'd expect in fact. Wouldn't watch it again. 5 / 10

Probably the worst thing I saw at the festival. Amounted to absolutely nothing. 3 / 10
