Re: The Chamber

Just an "ok" from me for this. I didn't entirely buy the speed with which things descended into chaos and the material felt overly familiar - particularly since the rather similar Jude Law vehicle "Black Sea" was out only last year.

Re: Let Her Out

The twin inside concept is an interesting one but unfortunately this was let down somewhat by a dodgy script and occasional wobbly acting (not so much from the leads at least). However this was all almost salvaged by the nicely gory transformation scene at the end...almost... because all people came...

Re: My Father Die

Solid (if a tad grim) opening film. Definitely one up on last year's opener. With this and his villain in Dead Mans Shoes I wonder why Gary Stretch hasn't been offered better films as "the bad guy" - certainly better than Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus anyway.

Re: Space for food etc between films

On the contrary, I actually found the gaps perfect this year. Once you had fought through the crowds in Leicester Square you'd normally run out of time to find anything to eat that wasn't at tourist rip-off prices. This year the break has involved a more leisurely stroll any one of a number of ok pl...

Perfect start to Saturday with this enjoyable zombie homage to jurassic park. Liked the characters, good action and it even found time to make a serious commentary on global issues! Not bad on a 3 mill budget!

Re: Abbatoir

Liked the idea, but the execution was badly fumbled. The detective with dialogue from a 50s potboiler was jarringly out of place and I even spent the first 10 minutes wondering when this film was actually set! Lin Shaye great as ever though.

Re: Cell

Or "28 Dials Later". Cusack and Jackson both turn up in their fair show of dtv dreck so we shouldn't be surprised. Wouldn't their characters at least have some reluctance about driving a truck over hundreds of people and then torching them? It seems not. A few unexpected deaths at least pr...

Couldn't agree more. Saw it on Netflix a week or two back and thought it was fantastically well done.

Nobody need fear about missing the late film with or without 24 hour tube as the N207 night bus runs to the centre every 30 mins. Of course the inhabitants of the average night bus will test the courage of even the hardiest of Frightfesters.....

Re: FrightFest has a new home for 2016

On a purely selfish note, as it is my local multiplex I couldn't be more delighted ! But generally, there is a big lobby area, all screens are on one level and there are loads of places to eat and drink nearby. I'm sure it'll work fine.

Re: films we just saw

So what was your first horror of 2016? Mine was vhs viral which sadly was a real letdown after the fantastic vhs2. Virtually none of it worked and some of it (benson and moorheads skateboarding in Mexico segment in particular) was downright tedious. Oh well 364 days left to find something decent.

A random observation ! Am I the only one that gets peeved with "film reviews" posted on websites and forums that are merely links to the tedious 2000 word blog of some hapless amateur? How tedious. Please just provide the 20-30 word summary that those with smaller egos have managed perfect...

Re: A Christmas Horror Story

Shatner was a hoot. The stories were so-so but the wraparound with Santa and the elves was a winner. Yeah, overall a good choice for one of the late films.

Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key

Superb giallo but then it's difficult not to love anything in which Edwige Fenech appears. Alan gave a really interesting and entertaining intro to this one which helped to set the scene and from then on it was everything you expect; boorish men, free-spirited women and a serial killer plot which sp...
