Re: Andy Nyman's Quiz from Hell
Much of the music round was new (at least three of the films featured weren't released at last year's fest) though some tracks were repeated from earlier quizzes. That said, it again annoyed me when Friday The 13th came up as the answer when that piece of music is from Part III. We managed all the t...

Re: 100 Bloody Acres
It was okay, and I laughed several times. But it felt long.

Re: Hammer of the Gods
It was the modern swearing that got me; that and one of the Viking invaders doing his best Ray Winstone. Pretty terrible. And for some reason (bearing in mind I used to be a Blake's 7 fan) I completely failed to recognise Glynis Barber.
Re: In Fear
Like its cast, it goes round and round in circles but never actually gets anywhere. There's certainly a mood about it in the early stages, but it gets a bit boring very quickly. Also: shouldn't they have run out of petrol long ago? It was stuck on the E For Empty for hours.

Re: Cheap Thrills
I guess I didn't like it as much as everyone else. It's okay but I found myself not really caring.

Re: Big Bad Wolves
It's good but not great, and either the Empire were playing it too loud or it was mixed too loud (especially the music, which had a nice Bernard Herrmann feel to it sometimes). I did like the opening half hour or so but lost some interest as it went on.

Re: Dark Touch
It was okay, and it opened well, but it didn't sustain to the end. It's not brilliant, but I don't think it's bad as every seems to be suggesting.

Re: Dementamania
I'm not a fan of movies where a vast percentage of the movie is, or might be, taking place in someone's head and isn't really happening. (See 1408 for an example.) Still, it did remind me why I don't want a career high up the corporate ladder. Some nice moments, though I guessed early on that one of...

Re: No One Lives
Good violent entertainment, though apart from the girl there's really no-one to root for as all the other characters are horrible people. Some great moments though.

Re: Hatchet III
Liked it enough, it does precisely what you'd expect; it's better than Part 2 (which I think tried too hard to top Part 1) but doesn't match up to the original. A mad axeman spectacularly slaughters idiots in a swamp, and here's little point in analysing it more deeply than that.

Re: Paranormal Diaries: Clophill
Seeing as how I hate found-footage with a molten-iron fury, I shoudl mention that I only went to this one because I live eight miles from Clophill, so it has some local interest. However, it has no cinematic interest. More of the spooky green night-vision camera mode, more people clumping round a cr...

Re: We Are What We Are
I think it's better than the Mexican original, and I think it's more accessible (I had no idea what the hell was going on in the Grau film). But it's still heavy going.

Re: Odd Thomas
Oh, this was one of my very favourites of the festival and probably one of my favourites of the year. I absolutely adored this film. And considering it's by Stephen Sommers, who can be a bit overblown sometimes, it's even more impressive. Being unaware of the book, I was unprepared for a kick-in-the...

Re: The Hypnotist
"Solid" is the word. Enjoyed it; it's absorbing, and has a decent action climax, though much of it has the feel of an ITV Drama Premiere (not unlike the Dragon Tattoo sequels, though not Tattoo itself). But..... I guessed the killer's identity purely on the basis of one shot where he/she w...

Re: The Dead 2: India
The Dead 2 may not be doing anything more than The Dead 1 did, but in different scenery. That said, I liked the mood and I liked the look of the film. Like the first one, it's a zombie movie where the individual zombies are more of a nuisance than a direct threat: they can be easily outpaced and it ...
