No. Apart from the last ten minutes or so, which picked up a bit, it was Adrift all over again.

Long takes are fine - mesmerising - if it's something like a Gene Kelly dance number or a dePalma tracking shot (or an eyeball skewered on a door splinter!). Warrior King wasn't as good as Ong Bak... but the long takes as he fights his way up the staircase in the hotel (?) are pretty impressive. Sa...

Perhaps the most obviously "made for 3D" movie ever.

Thrill! ...as sticks are slowly poked towards the camera!

Full 1,300-word review on my site, linked in my signature, if anyone's interested in the full-blown raging! Picking up on your third paragraph... jonbly always thought that Hostel could have gone in a really disturbing direction at the end (which would have made a Part II easier to link into). End ...

...the R1 disc came and we sat and watched it. Thing is, we watched it on my parents' R2 DVD player and it played fine. Why was that, when it's a different region coding? What's supposed to happen when you put an R1 in an R2? Nothing! Well, maybe an error message... What brand is the player? If it'...

...that annoying photographic technique of fast shutter speeds which eliminates motion blur and brings every frame up crisp and sharp - it's been favoured since the opening reel of Saving Private Ryan and it's fine for bringing out detail in each individual frame but it doesn't flow as a moving ima...

28 Weeks Later... All the good stuff was in the trailer, which diminished the impact of the movie. Gratuitous wobble-cam gives jonbly a headache. It's not big, and it's not clever. Helicopters can't be used as zombie-mowers. Well, maybe if you're making Shaun of the Dead 2 (aka Hot Dead Fuzz)... The...

jonbly liked that one too. There's also a live-action version, which (as commonly happens in Japan) has a somewhat different plot but the same characters and setting.

Caught Straightheads before the spiderdude pushes all the little guys out of the multiplexes. Pretty good... both the main characters were real people rather than cardboard cut-outs. Superior acting all round, in fact. jonbly isn't sure that Danny Dyer was the right person for that role - he seems t...

If possible, sit near the back... the front seats are way too close to the screen (it's particularly bad for 3D movies).

I think the two stories - the childlike fantasy and the Spanish civil war movie - fitted together much better and the whole thing was more emotionally satisfying. I don't know why I didn't get this from the movie first time... jonbly would guess that the way the movie's been promoted is part of the...

Same here. But, sat in row C (someone else booked) and the 3D just didn't work... we were too close to the screen. Even the 2D was pretty compromised. So... sit towards the back.
