The Caller
The Caller
I found this to be a bit of a bizarre, incoherent, winding labyrinth of confusing genre traits ranging from slasher to 'Nam war references, to pseudo-scientific ghostly apologies. It might have been perfectly coherent given a bit of conscious, early-morning thought, but it didn't persuade me to muster the effort to do the work.

Re: The Caller
This one was one of my favourites of the festival - a true Discovery and I'm so glad I blew off A Night In The Woods for it.

Crikey, sounds a bit weird. I will probably watch it when it's out now.Meanbobs wrote:I found this to be a bit of a bizarre, incoherent, winding labyrinth of confusing genre traits ranging from slasher to 'Nam war references, to pseudo-scientific ghostly apologies. In fact I have made an effort to watch as many discovery screen films as possible from last year just to see what was on offer, and will do the same this year.
Thanks for the ride, sir.

* Spoilers, maybe? *
I really enjoyed this until the last twenty minutes. I was expecting a particular ending—which I felt the script had cleverly set up, and with which I would have been very satisfied even though I saw it coming—and then it just went slasher. I was quite disappointed, as I much preferred the ending I had in my head!
