[REC]3 Genesis

Post by jonbly »

9/10 - Big thanks to the leading man for putting the boot into the wobble-cam early in this one. Turns into a lovely romantic horror with just the right amount of cheese. Helps that the leading lady is drop-dead gorgeous... Roawr.

Loved it, like how it doesn't take itself too seriously

2/10 This was really, really awful! I'm all for subverting genres and taking sequels in new directions, but it seemed like the film makers had never seen the original and they really would have benefitted from learning a few lessons from it. Eg. no comedy, claustrophobic atmosphere..... the reason it's called REC... We left early, but not early enough.

Highlight so far.
Taking it in its own right (for the reasons Muffy refers to, though I have no problem with the changes), the lead actors were the perfect couple. One thing worth noting is that the background cast looked like people at a wedding rather than people who very much want to appear as zombies in a film ("Hordesourcing" movies take note).

Comedy was not too intrusive, but worked well when applied.
Notably the pay off to deaf Grandad.

I hope they filmed an alternative "Power of Love" ending for the DVD but chose the one we saw last night, because it was better.

Brilliant opening and outstanding wedding crowd scenes...
then it quickly fell apart by pushing the comedy aspects too far.

I think it worked as what was a very serious first film got totally subverted with this. Great kills, wicked humour and my film of the festival so far.

Great film and loved the way they switched from the hand held / shakey cam style. Doesn't quite fit in the series but a good time film

I absolutely loved the first 2 films and I was dismayed to see they'd turned the series into a silly comedy and I just couldn't get into it all as a result. Maybe I need to watch it again and just judge it as a comedy rather than a [REC] sequel...

This.

What a way to ruin a totally awesome series of films. The biggest disappointment of the festival for me, although as a stand alone movie with no ties to the Rec films it wasn't bad.

This is a bit of a weird one.

Perfectly fine as a wedding/zombie attack nightmare sort of thing.

But I really didnt see quite how this fitted into the REC universe, or maybe just using that to help with marketing it.

Perhaps they should have called it "WEDDING FEAST" or "TIL DEATH US DO PART - THE MOVIE" or "HONEY, MY UNCLE'S A ZOMBIE!"
