Paura 3D

Post by jonbly »

2/10 - a deeply mediocre movie magically transformed by the wonder of 3D into a really bad movie. Really, really bad. Bad music and sfx, too - what was with that growling? Too slow to get moving. Some effective tension for a couple of minutes at the end, and that's about all that can be said for it.

Took far too long to get going, and barely seemed worth the trouble once we arrived.

And one does NOT simply get up after being skewered by a pitchfork, for heaven's sake...

Just really poor, didn't enjoy, couldn't care about the characters. Only the last part of the film is worth seeing. Truly not impressed

it was OK and passed the time but a bit of a nothing movie - I stuck with it to see if it would be explained who the girl was and why she was there. I'm no fan of 3D at all - the sooner it disappears again the better - as I've still not seen a movie that 3D has contributed anything to my viewing experience other than a mild headache - certainly didn't add anything to this movie. 4/10

Had a real struggle sticking with this one. Either the early Saturday morning start knackered me out or I was just bored. Once it got going, meh, nothing to write home about.

Best use of 3D though with the white text for the credits at the start which was crisp and eye popping. Other than that, pointless.

I dont watch these movies for realistic depictions of overcoming pitchfork abuse, but Paura was admittedly slow-paced and the 3-D utterly pointless, as tends to be the case with, um, 3-D movies in general. Still, i liked the 80's Italian horror vibe : it felt like something Lamberto Bava might have made in 1987, with all the flaws that would entail but also isolated good moments of brutality and atmosphere. And gratuitous vaginal shaving.

A vibrant horror movie, suitably sick and tense, with three wayward youths having fun at a posh guy's villa and reaping the payback big time.

The woman in this cellar was a mess of mystery; I couldn't make out whether I felt sorry for her, or just wanted to forget the evil beast forever by the time the end credits rolled.

The long, languid build-up worked - making the grisly horror towards the end of the movie, even more painful to watch. Nice to see some equality in that a man and a woman were chained up in the cellar at the end, though less equality that the woman was naked and the man had his trousers on. I saw one thing in 3D that I hope I never have to see in 3D again. It didn't belong to the actress, but to a stand-in random porn star. Although it felt a little out of place, visual extremes like this in a horror movie are brave and subversive. The soundtrack with creepy gargling and whispers was excellently Suspiriaish and the 3D was used to good effect, especially (and exceptionally) in the opening colourfully and trashily-animated credits straight from the pages of a Brothers Grimm book that featured a little girl exploring a mysterious forest and not liking what she finds - her 'guardian angel' (or maybe she is liking, I'm not sure quite). In the closing sequences with a flickering flame in front of us, the 3D added a subtle intensity.

I enjoyed the frenetic energy in the chase sequence and felt genuine fear when the lights went out at the film's climax with just a lighter to give us hope. 'Felt genuine fear' in a horror movie - that's been a long time coming!

Really can't agree on the soundtrack - felt like complete amateur hour.

Was cheering for the marchese at the end to rid the world of three of the dumbest characters I have ever had the luxury of watching.

Complete shite.

** Spoilers **
This would have scored even higher had the ending been better. I was just debating whether the girl was going to be revealed as a vampire or a werewolf when instead she turned out to be just a dangerous crazy, despite being vulnerable and scared for most of the film. Still, I liked the suspense and horror sequences which I felt worked superbly well. 8 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Enjoyed the film, good opening titles but did not understand why the girl was stripped naked and not the bloke, other that.
Thought it was nicely paced and did not really need to be 3D.
