Housewife

Much like Baskin this is somewhat bizarre, but possibly slightly more straightforward than the director's previous effort. The influences of the likes of Argento were also a little more evident this time around.
Spoiler:
The depiction of the cult was interesting and I appreciated the exploration of the dream versus reality conundrum. As for the odd ending - which reminded me of Mother! - I can imagine this may baffle and also prove to be somewhat marmite.
Kudos to some of the pleasingly gory sequences at the end!

8 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Beyond Skyline

Another film that does what it says on the tin, doing what it does reasonably well. It develops the mythos from the first movie, which was more suspenseful and horror-oriented, and goes down more of a sci-fi action route.
Spoiler:
The ending even feels a bit like a superhero flick!
A pretty good dismemberment was one of the highlights of the festival.

Terrifier

Light on story and exposition this throwback to the likes of Driller Killer
Spoiler:
plays like an extended chase sequence
and has a good tempo, plenty of gore and humour (albeit a little less of the latter than I was expecting).
Spoiler:
Jenna Kanell's Tara helps to anchor the plot and whilst I liked her prolonged suffering I felt gunshots were an uninventive way to finally kill her off given the variety of the other kills.
I did see the "twist" coming a long way off though.
Spoiler:
A sequel please!

So overall I'd plump for Housewife as my favourite film, withThe Black Gloves unfortunately bottom of the pile, albeit with a pretty reasonable score of 6.5 - assuming the sound issues were not deliberate then this score may increase on second viewing. I skipped the Q&A for some much needed food so apologies if this point was covered during that session.
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.
