Re: Bad Behaviour
I was the guy with the mohawk and my friend was at the end of the aisle, I honestly didn't know it was you. Sorry about that

Bad Behaviour
This was my first Frightfest & I refused to grab any free things from the stage as I felt so uncomfortable over the whole 5 days.
I was expecting people to look at me weird as I grew up in a small town, but no one really spoke to me & it was until I was helping the people around avoid getting their stuff stolen by waiting for them to return before leaving my seat, that they actually spoke to me.
I did not feel the family-vibe that people had said. Even when queuing for the ladies I got an evil stare when I hadn't noticed straight away that a cubicle was free... I held up the queue for not even a minute!!
I would go again but probably would bleach my skin first!!
My boyfriend was treated very nicely as he is caucasian.

Re: Bad Behaviour
I saw a bloke take a Rabies poster off the wall (stairs from the building entrance) after the final film on Sunday night. It was already announced that Rabies would be playing again the next day so the poster was placed there for a reason!
I really wanted a Chillerama poster but you wouldn't see me try and steal one off the walls.

Yes, this seemed to be the inaugural year for the goody-free goody bag....Meanbobs wrote:Maybe all of these free goodies could be put into the largely empty goody-bags that were either given to weekend passholders or stuck behind the store stall being peddled as FULLY LOADED for £20. I believe it's traditional for goody-bags to contain goodies. It make sense from a semantic standpoint, at least. Doesn't it? Let me just check that T-shirts and posters still qualify as "goodies"...Yes, yes they do. According to all.
I appreciate that some (maybe most?) people had DVDs in their bags, but all I had was a copy of the (free) programme, a little booklet about the Scala and some promo cards (which are not goodies, they're trying to get me to buy stuff). The only "goody" was the bag itself.
A nice lady was kind enough to give me a copy of "Black" on DVD, but what happened to all the T-shirts, key-rings, bottles of water, copies of Bizarre etc (not forgetting the Walking Dead mugs) we used to get? I know you're not supposed to look a gift-horse in the mouth, but as Frightfest gets bigger every year why do the "perks" get smaller?

I haven't been to Frightfest before so I was quite surprised by getting anything just from having a weekend pass. But it did seem quite light especially when they started giving away keyrings, which would have been cool as another extra in the goody bags.
They did say that a lot of the goods that they were meant to put in the goody bags were destroyed in the London riots. But I guess that isn't always a good excuse...

Re: Bad Behaviour
We had the same "problem", some of the bags just weren't properly stocked/stuffed, we just went back to the desk and exchanged them for properly filled ones. The Soapmaker wrote: I appreciate that some (maybe most?) people had DVDs in their bags, but all I had was a copy of the (free) programme, a little booklet about the Scala and some promo cards (which are not goodies, they're trying to get me to buy stuff). I was seated in DD, no potsmokers around there luckily, would have pissed me off, too.
What pissed me off, though was the amount of people running around during the films. Seriously, if you got the bladder of a baby and can't hold back on pissing for 90min or have that oh so important phone call to take or whatever, just get the fuck out.
It's been my third year, still can't see the whole family vibe some people talk about, that seems to be mainly people who have been going there from the start BUT we met some people from last year and had some chats about the movies we just saw so that is an improvement over last year.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
Goes to show that a lot of people were affected by bad behaviour this year (primarily the pushing and aggression.)

Re: Bad Behaviour
Agree - there seemed to a large number of DVDs given away on the Monday, that could have easily gone in the goodie bags and made them more substantial, in paricular there were loads of copies of Dead Cert, looked like there were certainly enough of them for one in each goodie bag. There may not have been enough of the other films given away for one for each person, but some of them could have certainly gone in the bags, and people getting different contents of the bags would have added some variety to the bags as well....also I can't believe there were no free Deadheads this time, what with a film called Deadheads being shown and everything!Meanbobs wrote:Maybe all of these free goodies could be put into the largely empty goody-bags that were either given to weekend passholders or stuck behind the store stall being peddled as FULLY LOADED for £20. So yes putting the DVDs in the bags would appear to solve both problems, less complains about the lightness of the bags, and no mad scramble and riot scrums down the front.
Re: Bad Behaviour
Ah there was a time when we got DVDs, CDs, Stickers, Hell Boy Toys, Books and tons of promo stuff... I miss those days...
And I miss the old way of getting the extra goodie - the girls used to give them out on the door, made it fair and everyone got a hance to get something.
Anyway yes mobile phones are annoying but the more annoying thing was the man who was sitting in front of me who kept shouting 'TURN OFF YOUR PHONE' any time someone made a move with the phone. That took me out of the film more. It was the same guy who pitched a fit during Chillarama and stomped out. I sat behind him during that and he was just as bad as the phone people - learn to sit still!

Re: Bad Behaviour
Re DVD's, T-shirts etc, the volunteers should give them out one to each person as they walk into the screen - that way its fair and everyone gets one item each
Re: Bad Behaviour
I've never been quite interested in the Free Stuff during the Festival or The Goodie Bags, to me it's a perk and a lovely one at that. In the interest of fairness like many of said DVDs should either go in the bags or be handed out on the door. The only problem I see with that is there being a queue formation unless there where 4 helpers to each door.
The T-shirts on the other hand are a little different, the biggest problem here is SIZE. Unless the Goodie Bags are Size indicated than the current problems around this will only continue. I don't mind the swap/trade idea at all, I find it fun and a good way to start a conversation with new problem I just know a lot of people "can't be arsed" and just want a Tshirt that fits.
This year I had a few people barge and push me to the side, but in all honesty it doesn't bother me. If you don't get there quick enough it will all be gone, I'm just glad I stayed in my seat and watched the chaos insue. One more thing, the helpers next year should regulate the free stuff, I heard complaints of some people taking hand fulls of the same things without sharing. I know we go to FrightFest for the films, the wonderful people you meet and the excellent atmosphere but come on people it's only "stuff".

Re: Bad Behaviour
Yeah, agree about the scrum for goodies - second year I haven't gotten anything and to be honest dont think I would bother trying again, I did try and stick my head in but couldn't get anywhere near. I also saw people with fistfuls of dvd's. What can I say? Greedy, and has put me off even wanting to try.
On the plus side I did get my 2 free dvd's in my goodbag this year - last year I didn't have any in my bag so hurray.
I didn't have any problems with phones being on but I was quite near the front so that may be why.
Generally most people were great.
It was a REAL shame about outsde the cinema with the road works, but nobodies fault. It did definately effect the socialising and any mixing with directors / actors etc that usually goes on. But I did catch a couple inside.
It's just unfortunate - as much as I want Frightfest to succeed and get bigger and better on a selfish note I somehow preferred it when it was smaller and more intimate.
I ultimately had a fantasic weekend though and none of these niggles ruined the weekend.

And they're the DVDs which should've been in the goody bags, presumably!mike108 wrote:a guy walked past me with at least a dozen copies of fanboys and i saw several people with similar sized piles - i would imagine these will all be on ebay!

I like to network with fellow filmmakers & friends but it was near impossible with the building works combined with the sheer amount of people walking in & out of the screenings.
