Hey guys,
As you might know, the BFI/Kim Newman treated film fans to a rare screening of Let's Scare Jessica to Death on Friday night. It was an old print with a slight tint, liked for its quaintness and historic quality by some, disliked for its lack of pictorial clarity by others.
What are your views on how we commemorate and remember the horror films of the past? What's the best way to do it? Should we do it?
Answwers on a bat wing please ;-)

Wasn't there - much as I desperately wanted to be, because I've been wanting to see this for a long time - but I wouldn't moan about the pictorial quality. Complaining that a seventies print looks like a 70s print with its slightly faded or tinted colour, is like complaining that Nosferatu is silent. And until it's financially viable for older movies to be preserved to a high definition standard, as a matter of routine rather than merely the Casablancas and Brief Encounters of this world, that battered old cinema print is as good as we're going to get, unfortunately.

I was at Kim's book talk/screening at the BFI, and really enjoyed seeing Let's Scare Jessica to Death; I keep hearing about it (mainly from Kim) and couldn't find a copy anywhere.
However, I've never seen a print so discoloured: it was bright pink, and made all the actors look like redheads! Still great, though.
