Firstly, whoever maintains this boards needs to set up a 2012 sub section and move all the film reviews there (for neatness/consistency sake you understand).
Anyway, I was wondering what people felt about having the Q&A mike at the front as opposed to being dotted around the audience - it makes sense in some aspects, but doubly intimidating for anyone asking a question (remember the lad who seemed completely beside himself and, I think Alan went and talked to him to ask the question for him).
Also I seem to think there was a lot less Q&A this year, even in the Discovery Screen there was no introduction and no one from the films I saw were present. Obviously people have other commitments but, its a bit of a hollow ending to a film sometimes.

The boy who was lost for words, i think had an issue with speaking english because i was behind him in the snack queue and it literally took him 20 mins to order some buttons. The girl serving him basicaly had to do a sherlock holmes to work out what he wanted. I originally it down to nerves but you got some serious self-confidence issues if your too nervous to ask for chocolate buttons.

Yeah, I was pretty close and I thought that the poor kid had a stutter or suchlike. Must have taken a lot for him to get up there and ask a question, felt for the lad.bump3r1 wrote:The boy who was lost for words, i think had an issue with speaking english because i was behind him in the snack queue and it literally took him 20 mins to order some buttons. Annoyed me that people laughed at him. Funny, innit. When someone is nervous and that. Hardy har har har.
I think that the microphone being there is basically to help the volunteers. Its more organised. I liked that girl who went up quite a bit and was really enthusiastic about all the films. And the French woman is part of our mythology; people were as excited to see her finally as they were, I dunno, Emily Booth or something.
It did seem as if the q&a sessions went quickly this year, mind. Perhaps the schedule was tight. Felt bad that the Tulpa crew didn't get the chance to come back. I did speak to them afterwards though- lovely bunch.
Peaceout bump3r1

Yeah, the poor kid, really felt for him. The idiot sitting behind me in row G laughing his head off, plus other like minded fools, wouldn't have helped. Shame on you for doing so! And well done to him for getting up there in the first place...anoy yin barsted wrote:Yeah, I was pretty close and I thought that the poor kid had a stutter or suchlike. The Tupla crew didn't get a chance to come back? Felt more like Alan wanted to avoid any uncomfortable questions after the film screening turned to farce...

i think he had some kind of social disorder - he was behind us in the queue to get into frightfest on Friday morning, the queue for the discovery tickets, he was so in our personal space it was ridiculous, he was closer to me than my fiance was! And he kept walking in front of us, i had to keep telling him to move back behind me. I knew almost immediately that he wasnt doing it to be an ass, but rather he must just be socially awkward in some way. And then low and behold he appears in front of the microphone unable to speak properlly. Felt sorry for him but he appeared to have a good time, clutching his posters and various goodies.bump3r1 wrote:The boy who was lost for words, i think had an issue with speaking english because i was behind him in the snack queue and it literally took him 20 mins to order some buttons. Whatever the problem was (and I thought at the time it was stagefright or a stammer), he DID leave the mike with a huge round of applause and dignity, despite the half-wits who were laughing ....

Nah, not at all bump3r1- you always seem like a laid back matey on these boards.bump3r1 wrote:I hope no one thinks i was mocking him with my post mind.
There were many mysteries surrounding the q&a though. The Tulpa conspiracy I find VERY intriguing.

It wasn't an English problem-I had a brief talk with him and he was just extremely shy. Have huge respect for him getting up there asking a question, he deserved every bit of that applause.

Re: Q&A microphone placement - Q&A lacking
I thought the new Q&A system worked well - having them queue up lets those on stage see how many questions are coming, rather than having to squint through stage lights trying to spot waving hands all over the place.
And they don't waste time sending staff running around the auditorium with microphones and freebies.
They should do the same at the London Film Festival.
