FrightFest

Blue Slushies (Dont know how available they will be for fright fest, but if they are there, I will consume a minimum of 1 per film)

I didn't see a Slush Puppy Machine at FF last year. Will there be one this year? Raspberry (the blue flavour) is my favourite and it is my favourite non-alcoholic drink of all time with Kool-Aid coming a close second. I even consumed a few while in labour with my son, not being able to eat anything during the 48 hour nightmare which was his birth. I sent his father sleep deprived and thoroughly drained to the nearest corner shop for the drink that quite frankly gave me the energy to keep going.

I will definitely be looking out for that machine!

While we're warning our neighbours about our OCDs and stuff, now might be a good time to mention that I have Aspergers syndrome, so talking and socialising isn't easy for me, particularly in large groups.

If you see a short person hanging around on his own looking sad it'll probably be me, so remember - I'm not as miserable and antisocial as I seem, so try not to judge me on first impressions, especially the guys sat next to me in row FF.

I've travelled to big cities like London, Newcastle, Manchester and Glasgow on my own before, but I've never stayed longer than 2 days. Lot of conflicting feelings at the moment. I'm half excited, half terrified about going to Frightfest and spending a whole week in London. Looking forward to seeing loads of great films and feeling daunted about being around so many new people.

Even posting on the forum is hard. It took me over an hour just to type all that, and now I don't know how to finish... so...

Outsider, I take my hat off to you, because I have thought about what it would be like to do FFest on my own and I find it really hard to imagine to be honest. I was wondering if being a guy makes it a bit easier because a girly standing around on her own looks weirder somehow, I don't know. I've seen a few guys on their own before.

You're really brave to come for 5 days on your own and I hope you get chatting to some nice people. My experience is that people are a bit shy to talk to each other, but then my boyfriend in 6ft 6 and people are a bit scared of him. He's a sweety really. I would love to talk to some more new people at the festival, but it doesn't seem to happen. With the rush for the loos, food gathering and rushing back for the next movie its a bit difficult, but I would like to change that.

If you see a tall brown girl with a taller skinhead guy its me and I will gladly have a chat with you if you fancy a chin wag or if you are feeling a bit on your own.

Im new to this so take it easy on me please!! I will be attending both saturday and sunday and have the seats G9 for sat, and H10 for sunday. I hope these are half decent seats as i havent been to this event before. I will also be on my Jack Jones so please try to to give too much abuse to 'billy no mates'!!!

I'm down near the front in B26. I've been coming to the festival since 2002, but this is only my second time to do the full weekend pass. Previously I've just cherry-picked the individual films I want to see or had a couple of day passes, but with no Dead by Dawn this year I had to get my extended horror fix somehow!

I'll be in G11 for the whole fest, with another in G10 for Thu, Fri & Sat, and another in your seat on Fri! They're not up fo' Sun & Mon though so I'll be loner-ing it then as well. If i feel even slightly sociable I'll say hello!

My friend is in G9 on the Sunday so I'll be looking for reviews on the comfiness level! He'll be sat on his own, fairly tall and blonde so say hi to him!

Nobody Frightfests Alone! I went on my own last year, and 11 months later I'm limbering up to doing it surrounded by faithful friends and playful enemies.
If you see a moody looking skinny guy, with nineteenth century sideburns, a liquorice roll-up, and a bottle of whiskey; then that'll be me. Don't feel the need to give me a wide berth as many do, even when drunk I'm truly harmless- and have even been known to be quite friendly.
Frightfest is a hefty undertakeing, a lot of time with a lot of people through a lot of films- and almost miraculously, everyone seems to get along just fine (bar a few rowdy excesses and snipeing trolls).
So think not of "so many new people", more "new friends who may, or may not, be twats- but friends nonetheless".
I'm quite pleased with my Frightfest friends, I made them myself, you know.

(Aargh dammit... I'm not a hippy!)

i popped my frightfest cherry this weekend, and i have to say i wish i hadn't bothered. dont get me wrong, its a great festival and the organisers do a great job, and i enjoyed the few films i did see, but being here on my own was harder than i imagined. too many sounds and smells = sensory overload - standing in the foyer or outside the empire was painful. if i was with a friend i would have had a great time, but being by myself and being unable to talk to anyone made the weekend torture - like having a 5 day long panic attack. i had to go back to te hotel and missed out on some films i wanted to see, and i didn't turn up at all on monday. i only saw half the films i intended to.

i was so stressed that i withdrew into myself completely so i couldn't even talk to the empire staff, which meant no goodie bag, discovery screen tickets or food for the whole weekend.

not whinging about the festival itself, just my own shortcomings. having autism means i spend most of my time pretending to be normal and trying to convince myself that i belong, and this weekend was a painful reminder that im not.

apologies to the blokes who sat next to me over the weekend.
