The Holding
The Holding
9/10 - good stuff this - interesting characters well played, and with a nice solid plot.
Re: The Holding
really enjoyed this - fantastic cast and really nicely shot
felt a bit disjointed at times but a great movie all in all

You're scared of mice and spiders, but oh-so-much greater is your fear that one day the two species will cross-breed to form an all-powerful race of mice-spiders, who will immobilize human beings in giant webs in order to steal cheese.

Re: The Holding
Liked this a lot, and I thought the setting added a great deal to the film.
The editing was a bit odd at times, and a few plot details were a bit daft. And it didn't need the OTT electric shocks and methane explosions at the end - it would've been better if it was kept a bit more grounded in reality.
But good work overall!

Re: The Holding
I think in the Q&A after the writer (director?) suggested that drafts were changed based on a supernatural element should be in or not.
Well acted and well paced but I found this to be rather dull and disappointing.

Re: The Holding
*** Spoilers *** 'Emmerdale' meets 'Isle of Dogs' as a mysterious stranger arrives at the farm, leading to an intense escalation of terror. I loved the rural setting, the strong yet flawed female lead and the stranger, played by a Russell Crowe-alike. Perhaps a little predictable, and, as others have already indicated, didn't always feel plausible (e.g. murder outside pub never followed up?!). Still, a worthy 8 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

Re: The Holding
Enjoyed this but got confused about what happened to the husband - so did they think they killed him and he wasn't dead? But surely they buried him??
Also wondered (being from Derbyshire myself originally!) why nobody in the village had a Derbyshire accent, other than the old guy who worked on the farm.
Anyway good stuff despite nitpicks.

Wasn't too shabby this film, I just thought Kierston Wareing was out of place in this movie. Plus her lips distracted me, alot.

Overall this was ok no more and no less
Re: The Holding
Thought it was a quite plodding film and took a while to get going. Was expecting more. The lead actor I thought was excellent as a menacing psychopath.

Re: The Holding
Somone described this as the three best episodes of Emmerdale ever made. It's an okay film but it's not great.

Re: The Holding
This was pretty good, liked the characters and ended up caring about them and thought the bad guy played his part very well.
Re: The Holding
I thought this was very good but then it just seemed to fall apart towards the end. Above-average but nothing mind-blowing.

Re: The Holding
My only reservation was the shaky plot point that Dean had, after all: -TheDukeAbides wrote:I think in the Q&A after the writer (director?) suggested that drafts were changed based on a supernatural element should be in or not.
a) escaped from his twig-covered grave (carefully ensuring not to leave any trace of his departure),
b) gone back to the rigs to think about what he'd done, and
c) confessed everything to his new anagrammatic friend before meeting a well-deserved (if overdue) demise.
I suspect that the root of this can be found in the late changes to the script.
Happily, the movie breezed past this blooper without a backward glance and I was happy to go along with it. It's a terrific movie, certainly one of the highlights of the weekend.

Re: The Holding
didn't think much of it. rather predictable and by the numbers, but decently acted, overall watchable, nothing more.
