Another Ti West Slow Burner with an ambiguous ending that allows the audience to argue over what really happened. I just didn't like the lack of explination over the apparitions she was seeing... RAR!!
The lead actress was top notch, without the cast being as great as they were would this one have been as entertaining? Not so sure but they totally won the day and whilst fighting off sleep I loved it, in fact I loved most of the films this year which surprised me after how disappointed I was last year!

Re: The Innkeepers
I'm not sure what to make of this. It was well acted, the characters were sympathetic, but.... I really enjoyed House of the Devil and The Innkeepers is essentially the same film, but without the (more interesting) period setting and with a drab as drab finale. To quote a mate, "Is Ti West a one-trick pony?" Whilst it was quite creepy, it was no more creepy than your average hanuted house film. Hopefully his next film is more interesting, as to the were-wolf one I predict it'll be 80 minutes of build up and a final 10 minutes where a were-wolf finally appears!

The Innkeepers
Fell in love with Sara Paxton in about 30 seconds. Such a goofy and genuine performance never wanted it to end and at that volume when it did it was keck it time. Glorious. Best female performance for me too.

Re: The Innkeepers
Probably my favourite film of the festival. Not up there with House Of The Devil but very well done. I think it's sad that a movie made in the retro/nostalgia style (and nostalgia for an era an increasing proportion of the audience are too young to be nostalgic about) is more rewarding than a 21st Century shiny digital genre film.

Re: The Innkeepers
I'm the opposite. I've not particularly enjoyed Ti's previous movies, but this was one of the highlights of the weekend. It's a sad comment on the genre and, indeed, on movies in general, that this film can be regarded as exceptional simply because it takes its time to invest in its characters. The Soapmaker wrote:It's strange, although I loved Ti West's previous films this one didn't quite work for me.
The first half of the film felt a little "lightweight" to me - even when the tension was building I never felt like anything scary was going to happen.

My thoughts exactly, ghost far too ghosty. Otherwise a near perfect film I'd say.Maniacal wrote:I really do love Ti Wests films and this was just excellent, it had some great character building and I'm even willing to let go of the fact that the "Ghost" looked like something out of Goosebumps. (Not that there's anything wrong with Goosebumps!)
Saw this at SXSW in April and this and Silver Bullets (starring Ti West) were definitely two of the highlights.
Good lad.
