Saint

7/10 - Doesn't really do anything wrong, just a bit cheesy and predictable - and it loses a little in translation because Dutch traditions differ from ours.

Another nice, dark fairy tale.

Not as good as Sennentunschi, but maybe because this was supposed to be more quirky, perhaps?

I'lll hold this movie in the same vain as Pans Labyrinth, a beautifully shot fairy tale for Adults.

Didn't do anything for me. Instantly forgettable. Not helped by the fact that I don't usually feel very Christmassy in August. Got another flag for the Frightfest marketing material though, I s'pose.

Really enjoyed this film. Makes me want to read about the Spain connection and the Europeans way of celebrating St Nicolas Loved the scene of the Santa riding on the roof and then crashing into a room with the two blokes having cocktails.

Want to see this again around Christmas time.

Fun slay-ride set in Amsterdam, with a retro feel like a fun version of 'The Fog'. One to watch again in December. The horse chase was good, while snow, fog and horror are made for each other. Agree with the point that some of the mythos may not translate well outside Holland. 7 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.

I liked the basic idea and there were some good scenes - like the rooftop chase and the horse falling on the police car - but overall it seemed a bit pedestrian, somehow. I think it needed a "big" closing scene - but probably lacked the budget.

Thankfully the horror Santa really is a horror Santa this time. Dick Maas has a great off kilter style and even his jump scares are unpredictable. Action horror fun and a great refresher. Friday was so strong how can it EVER be topped?

Enjoyed this, probably helped that my parents Dutch friends spent Christmas with us once so I knew about the Dutch Christmas traditions.

I'd like to see a sequel set in Spain where Saint Nicholas battles the Caganer

Like quite a few other films in the fest: it's good but it's not great. Also a little uncomfortable about the kids getting killed off.

Agreed. It's unfair to compare the two (they're both a bit foreign and about Xmas) but I'm weak and can't help myself.

Everyone - if you've not seen it, get a copy of Rare Exports :D
