Nightbreed - The Cabal Cut

6/10 - Kinda dubious about this as my 20yr-old memories of the original cut were 'incoherent mess'. (I wish they'd credit the dickheads who wreck films like this, so their reputations would be destroyed...). But the re-cut makes a reasonable amount of sense. Lost interest in the last third as the gunfights and explosions dragged on and on in porno-vision. Needs cutting, ironically...

Never seen the original but this is too long but to put it together and then trim it might be a good idea

Great film tho

The ending now goes on for too long - I doubt if even Clive Barker in 1990 would have included all that footage... But, it WAS good to see as much as possible before they settle on a final cut.

I don't really see why this was shown, if Clive Barker was the main guest, it would have just about been acceptable, but without him this just took up space that a much better film could have had.

The original wasn't any good in the first place, and now we have endless fuzzy blurred and unwatchable scenes inserted into the middle of that to make a stupidly long monstrocity. It was faithful to the book but that's about the only good thing I can say.

The producers said we were going on a "journey" with them and this film, I really don't think I want to be part of that journey.

This was new for me, having never seen the original release, and I liked the story and the creatures. Clearly the guys involved have done a great job finding and restoring the film so far, although some scenes are still some way off being ready for release. I would love to see more of this universe - sequel anyone? 7.5 / 10

Would be definitely interested to see this again once they have got access to proper footage and can trim the running time down. Way too long.

Never have read the book but will have to give that a go.

Last time I attempted to watch the other version was back in the 80's on late night telly and promptly fell asleep.

I have to say the first, 5mins I was thinking, oh god so there is a reason why i feel asleep last time. Ended up really enjoying watching this version. The scenes they put in made sense of what was going on. Makes you wonder if the other version made sense!

Like they said in conclusion; its a work in progress. All credit to them for wanting to restore Clive's original vision. It's very close to the book now (which I re-read before coming to the Fest) and events like this stimulate further interest in getting a full restoration done, which this film fully deserves. No doubt when this happens there will be some editing done as well, particularly on the ending. 7 /10 (I anticipate giving a 10 in future to the fully restored cut).
