Sin City 2
Sin City 2
4/10 - there were things to like here… Nancy's dream sequence, and her recruitment technique for Marv. But there was way too much mess. Over reliant on Marv. Gambler's story went nowhere. New Miho sucked (and again was over-used).

Re: Sin City 2
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For There were only four full-length Sin City graphic novels and the three best were used for the first film. As well as A Dame To Kill For, two more original stories are added, which are even weaker. ADTKF benefits from Eva Green chewing the scenery (usually while naked) in a role as a cartoonishly evil femme fatale and she makes this segment worth watching even though it feels a bit repetitive at times, the story with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a gambler is quite brief and comes to a very unsatisfying and abrupt conclusion, and the story with Jessica Alba is just a simplistic revenge story with several baffling moments, plus marks the third time we've seen Marv assaulting a heavily guarded mansion across the two films. The beautiful style of the first Sin City is intact though somehow less impressive this time and there's plenty of action to keep things moving. 4/10
(individual story ratings: ADTKF 5/10, Gambler 4/10, Revenge 4/10)

Re: Sin City 2
Eva Green was the perfect femme fatale.
When she was eliminated, I began to lose interest.

Bought a Saturday day pass in large part because this was supposed to be showing - I love the graphic novels - so was a bit peed off when they switched it to Thursday and I couldn't make it ... sounds like I haven't missed much, though ...?
Re: Sin City 2
Not as good as the first instalment, feeling undercharged, although Sin City remains an intriguing place to explore, even if some of the tales seem run of the mill and / or repetitive. Perhaps it lacks the shock value of the original or is just missing something to make it stand out. 7 / 10
No tears, please. It's a waste of good suffering.
Re: Sin City 2
Too little too late. Underwhelming stories and the original was so long ago I'd forgotten all of the back stories behind the characters. Ironic that the most mainstream film at the fest contained way more nudity than any of the other films I saw over the weekend !
Re: Sin City 2
I've never seen the first one, but this was reasonably entertaining. Sterile, big-budget multiplex filler but it held my interest. 6/10

Eva Green was good - but accent drifted from American, to English, to even French sometimes.
Haysbert did well in a role that Michael Clarke Duncan was born to play.
Clive Owen's Dwight was my favourite from the first comics/film - to alter Brolin to look like him was just a tad creepy.
Overuse or not, Marv was the only entertaining part of the film.
Just sick of all the gruff, mumbling voice overs.
And too bloody long.
