Would love to see the Larry Cohen documentary with Cohen as a main festival guest.

King Cohen showed last year during August (Friday). I was busy watching 68 Kills.

Does get to a point when people start to talking about 'the other film' you missed at FrightFest. For the most part I've chosen the better out of 2-4 films on offer. Still wish I'd seen Meatball Machine Koduko over The Terror of Hallows Eve. LOL.

From what's been doing the rounds on the internet this week, it may not be the heresy it would have initially appeared to be mention Frightfest and the Suspiria remake in the same sentence. It certainly has pedigree in the director and cast and by all accounts is a full blown
( maybe Cronenbergian) body horror.
If it's ready in time, Halloween 2018 would also be very welcome.

High-profile horror at Cannes:

Climax: Fellow art-house controversialist Gaspar Noe's latest. The plot seems to involve a dance troupe taking LSD and then having a horrific orgy. Unlike Von Trier's film, this has had a rapturous reception, winning the Director's Fortnight and getting highly positive reviews. It has also been acquired by Frightfest's new sponsors, Arrow, for UK distribution, so a high chance of this getting a slot.

Border: An adaptation of a short story by John Ajvide Lindqvist, writer of Let the Right One In, again putting a modern Swedish spin on a supernatural monster. This won the top prize of the Un Certain Regard section. The director of this previously made Shelley which played the Discovery Screen in 2016.

The House That Jack Built: Highly controversial serial-killer film from Von Trier that most people dislike but has a few defenders. Alan Jones hates it and basically confirmed on Twitter that it would be going to the LFF.

Knife + Heart: Giallo-inspired slasher set in the gay porn world of Paris and starring Vanessa Paradis. Alan Jones tweets: "a bonkers, if over-hyped, slasher starring Vanessa Paradis, set in the 70s French porno world. The Franco/Fulci/Bava nods are all there, and there's even a bird with iridescent plumage, but the second half is just silly."

Murder Me, Monster: Gory Argentinian monster film. Opinion seems to be that this is visually impressive but with confusing storytelling.

Arctic: Played the midnight screenings. A survival thriller where Mads Mikkelsen is stranded in the Arctic.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark: Guillermo del Toro-produced adaptation of the US horror books aimed at younger readers. It had a lot of buzz at the market screenings.

Some more films that look interesting:

Anna and the Apocalypse - Scottish zombie apocalypse musical. Has been getting good reviews from other festivals where it played.

The Book of Monsters - Kickstarter-funded splatter film from the team behind The Creature Below which played the 2016 Frightfest. A trailer for this played at the Glasgow Frightfest, so looks likely if it's finished for August.

Possum - Matthew Holness (Darkplace) writes and directs the story of a puppeteer who returns home to confront his wicked stepfather and supernatural puppets. Wasn't a clip from this played at last year's Frightfest?

Sky Sharks - Footage for this was filmed back at the (2015? 2014?) Frightfest. Anyway it finally has a release date of 1st September in Germany, so could be at this year's event.

The Nun - Latest entry in the Conjuring universe.

Heretiks - Paul Hyett's latest, a Jacobean witchcraft horror set in a monastery. Trailer played about 2 years ago at the Glasgow Frightfest.

The Tombs - Like Heretiks, another Templeheart films production. Has a lot of Frightfest attendees and alumni involved. Probably more Discovery screen material than main screen.

Ghostland - Pascal "Martyrs" Laugier is back with more brutal torture and violence in this home invasion thriller. Won the Grand Prix at the Gerardmer Fantastic Film Festival.

I am a Hero and Inuyashiki - A zombie and superhero film respectively. Both from director Shinsuke Sato, both winners of the Brussels Fantastic Film Festival Golden Raven award.

What the Waters Left Behind - Argentinian version of the film genre where teens get attacked by cannibal savages in the back of beyond.

Patient Zero - Scheduled to play at the 2016 Glasgow film festival before getting pulled and replaced by Pandemic. Two and a half years later, are they finally willing to release it? I don't understand the decision behind the delay given that the two stars, Matt Smith and Natalie Dormer, are no longer involved in such high profile projects as they were back then and in the meantime The Girl with all the Gifts has been released, which seems to have a similar plot.

Satan’s slaves looks goood! I would love it if climax played but even with arrow involved seems like LFF material? The Nun would be cool but maybe won’t play, as IT didn’t last year. Border and piercing both sound great on paper.

Not really a film suggestion, but a merchandise one. I saw loads of people with FrightFest bags (more messenger style than backpack), and learned they were the goody bag in previous years. As last year was my first year, I missed out, and even if going forward the goody bag will be a tote bag, it'd be nice if there was an option to buy one of the previous style bags from the merchandise stand.

I'm so excited for the reveal, I have hotel and train tickets booked, now I just have to hope I can get a festival pass, especially as my hotel is non-refundable.
